Thinking of Gretchen, and of all her family, a month after her death. We were each other's longest friendship, beginning in September of 2nd grade. She and I shared every step of growing up. We both lived in many places as adults, raising our families, but by a few years ago, we had landed just miles apart in southern Maine. It was the circle of life for two friends. I will always be thankful for living near Gretchen in the last few years, and especially for being able to support her in her illness.
Gretchen was a cheerful, caring person with a contagious laugh. Her happy spirit brightened the world. She was devoted to her loving husband Mike, their three children and one beautiful granddaughter. May memories of the goodness she brought to each day be of comfort to all of her family.

Knowing Gretchen during my military service at Panzer Kaserne, Germany from 1995 - 1998 was an honor. The Rosario family impacted our small community and Gretchen's love of family, love for children, and love for community made Panzer a "little slice of heaven." Quick to smile, easy to laugh, and always welcoming, Gretchen leaves us with a wonderful legacy through her children, beloved husband and best friend Mike (Rosie) and the countless lives she touched through the years. US Special Forces motto is "De Oppresso Liber" (To Free the Oppressed). Gretchen, you are free now from this dreaded disease and pain. I'll miss your smile, your laugh.
