I came to this information late. My condolences on the loss of your mother, and of your father. I was very young when I visited their home with my own parents, Emery and Alberta Fuller, in the late 1940s. Ina was bedridden with TB of the spine at that point, and Johnny cared for her. With all that difficulty, they still managed to enjoy each other and friends. I have a photo of your father in his uniform during WWII. My dad worked in the South Portland shipyard, building Liberty ships. Despite the loss, I am glad that Ina survived, and that she and Johnny had one another for all the years of their marriage.

Hi Pat, I was sorry to hear of your mom's passing.  She was such a wonderful person, always cheerful and spunky, had a great memory and asked lots of questions about how we were.  She was a meticulous seamstress, and I always felt lucky to have her do alterations. You had 'recommended' her, way back at Hannaford, and I so enjoyed visiting with her and your dad.  Both were always gracious and welcoming, and of course, very proud of you!

We at First Congregational Church of South Portland were so sad to hear of Ina's passing. She was our longest-term member and proudly displayed the cane that comes with that title. We remembered your family in our prayers in worship on Sunday and will put it in our weekly newsletter as well. Let us know if you would like for us to pick up the cane so that you don't need to make another trip. Blessings on your family during this holiday season as you miss her presence with you.

Dear Pat and Steve,
It’s been a long time since we shared a sandbox in the old neighborhood, but we’ve been blessed with great parents and have much for which to be thankful with their relatively long lives... especially your mom.
Ina has always seemed upbeat and spunky, not to mention being perfectly coiffed and groomed. She radiated kindness and cheer. Another one of the greatest generation!
Thank you for your care and love for her. I always enjoyed seeing both you, Pat, and your mom at Hannaford .
Steve, it’s been a while! I think I’ve seen you maybe once since we’ve become adults. Love to you both as you celebrate your mom’s life and grieve her passing.
Sincerely, Kathy (Otis) Hollis

Ina was a wonderful neighbor and a lovely person.  So helpful to me as a young mother.  Patty & Steve we couldn't have managed without your help also!  We lost touch but you all were often in my thoughts.
