Dolores Rumo Obituary

Portland – Dolores F. Rumo, age 76 of Portland, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at her residence with her loving family at her side.

Dolores was born in Torrington, CT on June 29, 1943, the daughter of the late Mae (Bridges) Derrig and Thomas Derrig.  She attended Cathedral School and graduated from Portland High School.

Dolores was a homemaker all of her life and being Irish, she married into an Italian family and cooked Italian food “better than most Italians”, and passed that onto her children.  She loved doing crossword puzzles, and travelling with friends with whom she traveled to Florida and Hawaii, and loved playing cards each week.   Christmas was also a big part of her life and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren on Christmas Eve, a fun family tradition.

Besides her parents, Dolores is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Arthur S. Rumo, Jr who died in 2011; a son, Shawn A. Rumo who died in 2012; and her brother, Pat Derrig.

Surviving are her two daughters, Bernadette Rumo of Falmouth and Michelle Higgins and her husband, David of Portland with whom she lived and was cared for the last year of her life; five grandchildren, Katrina Higgins, Brittany Higgins, Michael Higgins, Meaghan Higgins, and Nicholas Higgins; and one great grandchild, Alton Higgins Fairclough.

There will be a private service for family and close friends.  A celebration of Dolores' life will be held at later date.
