I was the director of Maine Adoption Placement Services/My Choice when Jackie came for an interview as the first foster mother in the My Choice Program. We had a teen apartment where we needed this service. Almost all of the girls/women in the housing program did not place their babies for adoption, but kept them. Jackie said in the interview that if there wasn't a place like ours, she would have to make one herself. I knew from this comment and her general friendly and competent presence that she would be a wonderful addition to our program, and she was for many years. She actually invented the role and gave the girls space to be themselves while preparing to become young mothers. They needed all sorts of care and Jackie never had a problem with any of them that she couldn't handle.
In addition Jackie functioned as our receptionist/bookkeeper for MAPS. Always a smile and great attitude, Jackie was definitely a favorite. She had a great sense of humor and was very competent in all that she did, and she did a lot.. I have always missed Jackie and have many fond memories of her years at MAPS/MY CHOICE. Her obituary was very informative and I learned many nice things about her that I didn't know. May she rest in peace.
