Jeanne “JJ” Marie LaChance (Campbell), 74, of Old Orchard Beach, died on June 2, 2020, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a brief illness.
She was born on August 31, 1945 in Fall River, Massachusetts, the daughter of George and Bertha (St. Onge) Heroux. Her family moved to Caribou, Maine, where at 5 years old, she started her hard work picking potatoes. Jeanne moved to Portland, Maine after graduating from Caribou High School, married Daniel Stephen Campbell in 1965 and had four beautiful daughters. Jeanne had many accomplishments and she loved to love on people. She was a fundraiser, a promoter, a public relations expert, a saleswoman, an organized quick thinker, a stage manager, private caterer and a project coordinator. She was involved in many different capacities for several organizations as the President of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, worked at and was featured in Business Digest Magazine, was the Maine Mall Event Coordinator, and was active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as well as many others. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and helped create OOB 365 and B.R.A.S.S. In 1998, she opened a restaurant in OOB called JJ’s Eatery. Later she opened a second location, JJ’s Eatery Too, in 2008. Her life was a living example of “give more than you take, and share more than you can.” Jeanne’s passion was in helping others. Her hands were never idle; she was always thinking of ways to raise money for people or animals in need.
Jeanne loved music and she always made it a point to end her night with playing a patriotic song. Her most cherished and prized memory was having the opportunity to meet her favorite singer, Neil Diamond, on his private jet when he performed in Portland, Maine.
Jeanne’s family asks that you take a few moments remembering her by listening to Neil Diamond’s song, ‘America.’ This would be Jeanne’s wish and she would say it with a smile. #JJSTRONG.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Ronald Eugene LaChance, and her daughters, Christina Fairweather (John Fairweather) of Scarborough, Leigh Carney (Tom Carney) of Portland, Kelley Campbell (Christopher Newcomb) of OOB and Danielle Foss (Ken Foss) of Saco, as well as her four siblings, Barbara Bissonette of Lewiston, Maine, Ron Heroux of Webster, Massachusetts, Wayne Heroux of Harrison, Maine, and Mary Sue Heroux of Portland, Maine. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John Timothy Weber, Danielle Quinlan, Nicole Morin, Brad and Mikayla Carney, Zachary and Justin Foss, and Taylor Fairweather, as well as 4 great grandchildren, Timothy and Chance Weber, Noah and Henry Quinlan; all of whom she loved and touched deeply. The devastating effects of COVID are prohibiting us from having the celebration of life we would like to have for Jeanne. We have established a GoFundMe page in her honor and this is our way of giving back to her as she did for so many others.
