Keith L. Savage

Keith L. Savage, 80, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2020 after a brief illness.  He was born May 11,1940 in Portland, ME, the son of Keith Ernest and Beatrice Mae (Young) Savage.

He attended Portland Schools, including Deering High. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine, Portland campus.  Graduating with a degree in English and Education, he became quite the grammarian.

He made a career in the Army with his first tour being in Korea, where he developed a love for Judo.  He also did two tours in Vietnam and his last in Saudi Arabia with Operation Desert Storm. He served as part of the 82nd Airborne as well as the signal corps and as part of a military police unit.

In civilian life, Keith served as a Police Officer in Portland and also in New York City. 

Following this, he worked as a Probation Parole Officer for 25 years with the State of Maine.

He was a member of the VFW in Portland where we would serve breakfast every third Sunday of the month.  In addition, he was a Past Master of the Cornerstone Lodge in Portland of which he was a member for many decades.

He enjoyed snowmobiling in Rangeley, Maine as well as hunting in Aroostook County and fishing trips to the Saint Croix River.  He enjoyed golfing, baking, and going to casinos.

The lights of his life were his two children Matthew and Sarah.  His greatest joys were his family and his friends. 

He is survived by his children, Matthew and Sarah as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Cynthia Savage Downs, who passed away in 2003. 

Visitation will be at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, Maine on Saturday, September 12 from 2-5pm.  At Keith’s request, there will be no service.
