I knew Kris from many years of cycling with him on the weekly Mondays and Thursday group rides with the Community Cycling Club of Portland (CCCP), which I managed. He was the sweetest guy and well liked by everyone who rode with him. He was also was a phenomenally strong cyclist, way faster than myself, so I mostly knew him from  the pre-ride and post -ride socializing:) He will be sorely missed by the greater Portland cycling community.

Dear Stephanie and Alma, I was shocked to learn of Kris's tragic health issues leading to his untimely death.  I remember him as a gentle, loving father to Alma and loving partner for Stephanie.  I will be holding you all in the Light.

Kris and I worked together 2011-15 at PMA. I will always remember his kindness, his quietly hilarious sense of humor, his gentle and steadfast presence, his capacity to devour more than one sandwich, and his exceptional, precise skills, coupled with his ability to rise to a new challenge. I was always amazed when he showed up on his bike at work during blizzards and loved hearing about all of his bike adventures when we'd drive together on art pickup trips. He was a profoundly good person, the salt of the earth, and I feel grateful to have known him.

Dear Kris, Everyday, I think of you, whether it is when I see a serious bike rider or enter my studio where one of the crates you built (for Robert Indiana’s “GEM”) lives. There are so many fond memories of you from working at the PMA. Your tall, lanky build, homemade tool pouches, and chess games in the break room. I especially admired your dedication to ride your bike to work every day in ALL weather conditions. Your attention to detail, whether in prepping and hanging exhibits or choosing the gear to ride through snow and freezing conditions and arrive to the PMA safe and warm, though looking like you just returned from a space mission. Your memory is a joy and a blessing for me to have known such a fine and decent man. Always in my heart. Clara
