Lyndon Flowers Obituary

Ret. Petty Officer First Class Lyndon Dale Flowers, age 63, died on May 10, 2020 at the Scarborough Veterans Home. He was born on September 5, 1956 in Wayne, Michigan but called DeBary, Florida home for much of his childhood.

Mr. Flowers served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years serving at sea and in Panama. His service landed him in Maine where he met his former wife of 33 years, Jacqueline, with whom he shared two children, Sara and Adam.

Mr. Flowers was a graduate of DeLand High School in DeLand, Florida. Upon retiring from the US Navy, his skilled background allowed him to enter Southern Maine Technical College and then University of Southern Maine with advanced standing and earn his Baccalaureate in Technology Management in 2001. He was a natural mathematician who handedly solved Sudoku puzzles and frequently read his children’s mathematics textbooks cover to cover at the beginning of every school year.

Mr. Flowers loved hunting and fishing, was an avid traveler, and looked forward to his regular trips to Florida to see family and friends. At home, he loved to garden and could be seen tending to his beds of annuals and hot peppers every spring.

He is predeceased by his father Edward James Sr., mother Leola Jean, step-mother Velma Lee, step-sister Judy, step-brother Gary “Gigi,” nephew Joseph, grandniece Jennifer, and niece Jennifer.

He is survived by his son Adam, daughter Sara, her husband Thomas Fawcett, and granddaughter Tarn; brother Edward James Jr. and his wife Beth, niece Jeanine and her husband James Crow, niece Lizzy, nephew Edward James III “Chip” and his wife Trish, nephew Avery, and nephew Anthony and his husband Chris; half-sister Sandi and her husband Robby Watson, nephew Bobby, and niece Lindsey and her wife Ande. Mr. Flowers also enjoyed his many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He will be remembered as a kind uncle who his nieces and nephews were proud to introduce to their friends, a helpful neighbor who was always there when people needed him, and a principled father who insisted upon manners and taught his children that you are a culmination of the five people with whom you choose to surround yourself. He taught his children that if you are the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

There will be memorial services at later dates in both Maine and in Florida. Further information about memorial services are not available at this time.
