Virginia Cobb Obituary

Virginia M. Cobb 92, of Scarborough passed away on April 18, 2021 at the Hawthorne House in Freeport. She was born May 8th, 1928 in Portland, to the late Mildred and Wilfred Noel. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Richard E. Cobb.

When her children were young, she worked as a CNA at Mercy hospital, in Portland.  After several years, she began her lifelong career at Maine National Bank in downtown Portland as a customer service representative until retirement in 1995.

She was seen as a regular, on Saturdays, shopping at the Maine Mall with daughters, Sonja and Beverly. She was known for her skills of growing beautiful red and yellow roses in her yard.  Watching the Boston Celtics over the years was one of her favorite past times.  She was like a child at Disney, when daughter, Cindy took them to Boston for their first Celtics game.  Daughter, Judy would be sure to call on Monday night to remind her that The Bachelor was coming on TV and they could later critique the show together.  Being a true Mainer at heart, she loved eating and teaching others how to eat Maine lobsters!  Son, Rick would drop off steamers for her to enjoy.  During her time at the Hawthorne House, she had her share of Day’s crabmeat rolls, (trust us) while enjoying these she’d still say “There’s nothing like a Maine lobster!”

Trips to such places as: Nashville, TN, Branson, MO and Lake George, NY provided various memories over the years.  Many fond stories and laughter of memories shared at Foxwoods Casino with in-laws, Sally and Bob, Penny and Donald and daughter Beverly and husband, Jimmy.

Over the years, she enjoyed time at Sonja and Reggie’s camp celebrating holidays and family birthdays.  She cherished our family Christmas gatherings at daughters Peggy’s and Sonja’s and watching the family in response to her given gifts.

To say family meant the world to her is such an understatement, she loved and lived for her family day in and day out.

Other than her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters:  Maxine Wakefield and Jenny Van Sycoc of Scarborough and brothers Sonny Noel of Windham and Dick Noel of Scarborough.  Grandson Steven Delano of Scarborough.  Sister-in-laws, Sally Frost of New Jersey and Barbara Sosebee of South Portland and brother-in-law Donald Cobb of Portland.   Survived by daughters: Sonja Ford and husband Reggie of Durham, Peggy Barabe and husband Leo of Phoenix, AZ, Judy Gauvin of Old Orchard Beach, Beverly Brown and husband Jimmy of Scarborough, Cindy Delano and husband Mark of Scarborough, son, Richard Cobb Jr. and wife Shelby of Saco and sister Millie and husband George Wyman of Scarborough:  10 grandchildren:  16 great- grandchildren.  A sister-in –law Penny Cobb of Portland and a brother-in-law Robert Frost of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.  Also, two very special friends Jerry Burton of Scarborough and Betty Lou Clark of Pennsylvania.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Hawthorne House and to Beacon Hospice for the care they had provided to our Mom.
